Welcome to our sixth issue of Observing Differently for 2019.

Our highly regarded three-day Ontological Coaching and Leadership in Action workshop continues to be available in Switzerland, the UK, and South Africa in the latter part of this year, as well as in Cape Town, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Manchester early in 2020. It is a stand-alone workshop as well as the entry point for engaging in the globally acclaimed in-depth 18-month Certified Ontological Coaching and Leadership Program.

Hundreds of ontological practitioners are active across five continents and this month’s article (see below) provides a wonderful example of the value individual clients can gain from this powerful methodology.

This month’ s article is a very thoughtful piece from Canberra based ontological practitioner Deanne Duncombe, who contributed an article earlier in the year on the role moods in conversations. Deanne has many years of experience as a leader and manager in the IT industry and has gained enormously from applying the ontological approach to conversations and business improvement in her various management and leadership roles. I think you will find her article a worthwhile read.

Until our next issue ...

Best wishes,

Alan Sieler

How Leaders can Use Opinions to Create Useful Outcomes
By Deanne Duncombe

As a leader or manager, what are you creating from your opinions that you may not be aware of? How is what you are creating serving you?

Humans go about life, forming opinions about people, situations and events. These opinions often become our truth, informing the actions that we take. If we aren’t aware of how we are using our opinions, then we cannot be aware of the actions that we are taking and what we are creating from those opinions.

What would happen if we stopped to notice our opinions? What if we were to become curious about how we can use our opinions to take action? What if we were to make conscious choices about the realities that we are creating?
